A screened-in porch is a summertime favorite for homeowners. It's the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors without having to worry about bugs or other annoyances.
Building a screened-in porch deck can be a daunting task, especially if you're not sure where to start. Never fear! This blog post will give you everything you need to know about building a screened-in porch deck, from planning to execution.
By the time you're finished reading, you'll be ready to tackle this project with confidence. So what are you waiting for? Let's get started!
Project Synopsis
We're excited to start a new project and share our progress with you! We have an excellent deck design in the works. We'll be posting a series of videos soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
The guys started working on punching holes yesterday. They worked all day measuring, marking, and figuring out how everything would line up. So lots of good stuff is happening today, digging holes, and the guys will have to shovel some of the rest. But the machines are going to get us well on our way.
We are setting the footers for the people who asked us to build a 12 x 20 Screen Room deck off the back of their house. We're going to have screens on all sides of the house and the roof. We'll take shingles off this reverse gable roof and reshingle the whole roof deck.
Prep Work & Project In-Depth Look
A month or so before the project, the customer was replacing the flooring in their home. Our project involved replacing an existing window with a door. We told them to move the vent into the window against the wall. When they open the door, they won't step on the vent.
Yesterday, the workers pulled off the first two courses of the roof and installed ice and water shields. They did this in preparation for installing the deck ledge board.
We had to cut off the sump pump pipe because it would enter the home if water got behind the flashing. We will bring that pipe back out and through and glue that all back together again.
Next Work Session Plan
We are going to do a pier and footer system and put in white lattice around the deck. We will likely trim the deck boards a bit. This part of the railing is coming out so people can go into the screen room.
We’ll replace one window with a screen door. Then we’ll need to figure out how the skirting will connect from our deck to the other one. Next week, we're going to start framing the deck out and getting the deck structure built.
